Ilford Arrival

Built environment communications / editing / writing / social media / press / management /

The Ilford Arrival rethinks community engagement by putting local voices — especially those from historically marginalised groups — at the heart of development. Commissioned by Redbridge Council and the Greater London Authority as part of the Civic Partnership Programme, it empowers girls and young women aged 16–25 to act as ‘co-clients’, holding real power to shape the future of the East London town.

Periscope, a spatial design agency based in London, leads on unlocking access to nature and public space in Ilford — including a new bridge, riverside walk and the rewilding of a golf course, with Diverse Dialogues leading on the community involvement process.

I supported Periscope with messaging, press and social media. The story was covered on the BBC, in the Evening Standard, Time Out and more.

“At a time of housing pressure, it’s crucial that local people are empowered to shape their own neighbourhoods. Too often regeneration is something that is done to communities, rather than with them. This approach gives them real agency.”– Daniel Rea, Periscope
