I’m a strategic communications expert and publisher. I help clients in sustainability and the built environment find and articulate their voice with confidence.

Whether you're navigating planning, engaging stakeholders or launching a campaign, I offer strategic guidance and creative direction. Through thoughtful storytelling and beautifully crafted media, I make sure your messages don’t just inform — they resonate, inspire and drive change.

  • Supporting Periscope with messaging, press and social media for the Ilford Arrival, a bold community-first regeneration project commissioned by the GLA and Redbridge Council

  • Working with Feria Urbanism on refreshing its brand narrative and rewriting the copy for a new website, including services, methodology and project pages

Experience

From 2021–2025, I led communications for Human Nature, the campaigning development company behind the Phoenix project in Lewes. I oversaw newsletters, social media, press, websites, photography, video and printed media, and played a key role in community engagement and planning. I shaped political messaging, produced public exhibitions and worked on major documents including the Design & Access Statement, delivery plans and a manifesto on housebuilding.

The Phoenix received widespread media coverage and multiple awards — described by The Guardian as “an environmentally sound model to rescue Britain’s broken private property sector” and by The Times as a “trailblazing model for how the UK might meet its net-zero goal”.

In 2014, I co-founded Waterfront, a publishing house and creative agency. I led editorial, design and production across in-house and client titles for ABTA, Travelzoo, Advantage Travel Partnership and more. Our work won several awards, including Trade Publication of the Year at the 2019 Travel Media Awards.

I've also written and edited for The Independent, i, NME, ShortList, Time Out, The Times and Sunday Times, with a focus on travel, culture, urbanism and sustainability. I'm a skilled copywriter and a published photographer.

My approach

Communications in the built environment are often reduced to a press release at the end of a project. But they’re not just an output — they’re a process. When done well, communications help build trust, shape priorities and create buy-in from communities, collaborators, planners and the wider public. Testimonials

“Anthony has been a great asset at Human Nature and a good companion through the swerves and arrows of outrageous fortune. I commend him highly to all out there who want to break complex place stories into appealing bites and amplify them across different platforms. Obviously he’s had great material to work with here, but he might make your stuff accessible and beautiful too!” — Jonathan Smales, Founder & CEO, Human Nature  “The Design & Access Statement for the Phoenix is the best I’ve ever seen, and it’s so beautifully written that I knew there must be a writer on board! Congratulations to the whole team and especially to you” — Juliette Mitchell, Architypal
